All About Donna Villani

My name is Donna Villani and I teach 3B at American Martyrs School. I would like to share my background with you. My family relocated to Redondo Beach in December of 2014 for my husband's new position in the financial industry. My husband, Enzo and I, have two children, Jimmy and Katie. Jimmy attends the University of California at San Diego and is studying Electrical Engineering. Katie attends Redondo Union High School. We are enjoying living in sunny California.
I grew up in Yonkers, New York and attended parochial schools throughout my life. I hold a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Iona College and a Masters of Science Degree in Education with a Specialization in Reading from The College of New Rochelle. I also have continued my education at Manhattanville College studying Special Education.
My teaching experience includes teaching second grade at Our Lady of Sorrows School in White Plains, NY as well as teaching second grade and receiving tenure in the Irvington Union Free School District in NY. I have been a reading specialist at Abbott House which is a community-based service agency that serves homeless, neglected, abused, or developmentally disabled boys in grades 2 through 9. I have also worked as a Special Education third grade teacher's assistant in the Scarsdale Union Free School District and as a permanent substitute in the Mount Vernon School District. In addition, I was a Special Education assistant in a Pre-K program for children with developmental disabilities and I spent two years privately teaching several adolescents with learning disabilities in a private homeschool setting.
While staying at home to raise my young children, I was the PTA President of their elementary school, St. Augustine's School in Ossining, NY and my husband sat on the Board of Education in our children's public school district in Lake Placid, NY. I also tutored and enriched over 100 students in kindergarten through twelfth grade and taught Mad Science in after school classes. Before I reentered the classroom, I lived a lifelong dream of opening up my own store. For over two years, I owned and operated The Adirondack Kid Company, a small, boutique toy store for young children in Lake Placid, NY. It was a great experience but when I relocated to California, I knew I wanted to teach again. I took over a maternity leave in March of 2015 at Saint Charles Borromeo School in North Hollywood. I then applied to American Martyrs as an instructional aide for fourth grade before becoming the long-term substitute teacher for Pony. I have been teaching third grade at American Martyrs since 2016 and I love it.
In my free time, I attend my children's tennis games, horseback riding lessons, Robotic, and Marching Band Events. We attend church at Saint James in Redondo Beach. I am an animal lover and have a rescue dog. I enjoy having family and friends visit from NY and spend a lot of time entertaining them when they are here with me.  I enjoy walking each night on the Esplanade or the Strand with my husband, traveling with my family, skiing, kayaking, and exploring my new state.
