Getting to know Mrs. Schwan

Mrs. Schwan began at American Martyrs School in 1999 teaching PE in grades 1-8 and served as the school's Athletic Director for 8 years. Through the years she has been involved in many school and parish activities. She coached boys varsity volleyball from 2002-2011 and girls varsity volleyball from 2011-2016. She loves working with students to foster leadership and has served as a co-moderator with the Student Service and Leadership Council for over 12 years.
 
While Mrs. Schwan will miss teaching PE in various grade levels, she will stay with her love of middle schoolers and focus on grades 7 and 8 for PE and is very excited to begin her new role with student success in the Upper School,  with a specific focus on strategies for building strong habits of balance for academic success.  
 
Mrs. Schwan holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy. She is currently working to finish the hourly requirement to take the California Board of Behavioral Sciences licensure exam. 
 
Mrs. Schwan attended Catholic school for 12 years and her approach to teaching is driven by her faith and a genuine care for the spiritual, physical and emotional health of our students. She is the youngest of a large Catholic family and a South Bay Native. She is married and has 2 sons (AMS and LHS Alumni) She fiercely loves her family, loves sports, the beach, camping, and a great joke. She is passionate about spreading her positivity to our students and lifelong love of fitness and overall wellness!
