AMS Scientists Shine at the L.A. County Science Fair

Over the weekend AMS Jr. Scientists participated in the Los Angeles County Science Fair. There were over 500 entries in the Junior Division and our Jr. Scientists brought home the following:

Erin McGinity (8th)-Martian Microgreens
Won Honorable Mention in Earth/Space Sciences

Clara Mangali (8th)- Ionic Liquids Vs. Enyzmes: Cellouse Saccharificaton for the Production of Ethanol.
Won 3rd in Biochemistry

Kate Molinari (8th)- How the Conductivity of Water Affects Desalination
Won 3rd in Applied Chemistry

Emily Champion (7th) - Solutions for Canine Otitis
Won 1st in Animal Physiology and is a Sweepstakes finalist (among the top ten in the Junior Division)

The winners of the LA County Fair will progress to the California State Science Fair on April 24-25.

The Los Angeles Archdiocesan Jr. High Academic Decathlon

Sunday, March 11th the Los Angeles Archdiocesan Jr. High Academic Decathlon took place at the University of California Long Beach. Congratulations to our team from Martyrs.

Team members included:
Finn Blood, Christopher Cappetta, Emily Champion, Katie Champion, Colin Jacobs, Clara Mangali, Grace Mangali, Kate Molinari, Ella Murray, Jake Norton, Maddy Pieronek, Rhys Rackett, Will Reel, Trey Rogers, Brady Tepstein, and Carsten Zieger.

The team came home with the following results:
10th Place overall out of 105 teams
5th Place in the Super Quiz
1st Place in Math – Trey Rogers, 8th grade
2nd Place in Literature – Clara Mangali, 8th grade
2nd Place in Current Events – Carsten Zieger, 6th grade
3rd Place in Science – Katie Champion, 8th grade
