2021-2022 AMS Principal Search

Position Description:

The Principal, under the direction of the Pastor, promotes development in the Catholic faith by implementing, coordinating, and overseeing the religious education program of the school; ensures the growth of every student by employing emotional intelligence to build, nurture, and sustain a fair and just school culture and meaningful instructional program that is grounded in Gospel values and academic excellence for all students, and promotes staff professional growth. The principal will promote the success of all students by ensuring collaboration among stakeholders to appropriately manage the school’s finances, personnel, fundraising and development, marketing and enrollment, and plant management.  The principal should demonstrate outstanding educational vision, professionalism, leadership skills, organizational ability, and interpersonal strengths.

 

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Pastor, the Principal’s specific duties and responsibilities include:

 

Servant Leader

 

  • Promotes Catholic social teachings, educational values, ideas as communicated by the Bishop and Pastor 
  • Ensures that the school’s philosophy of education and mission are communicated to parents and effectively implemented
  • Creates the vision and accompanying strategic plan for the school
  • Establishes and fosters the school’s Catholic identity and striving for a culture of inclusion
  • Acts as liaison with the Parish leadership on strategy and integration of mission and resources where appropriate
  • Provides direct management to three vice-principals with whom the day-to day operation of the school is shared
  • Engage and oversee, the Consultative School Board, where appropriate

 

 

Administration

 

  • Lead admission process, in conjunction with the Pastor, for vetting and differentiating candidates
  • Connects with the larger Catholic school system to share, lead, and learn
  • Engage with the parents to discover and share strategic value
  • Oversee, in coordination  with the Vice-Principals, the implementation and review policies and procedural information in service to the vision and mission of the school 
  • Serve as a member of the Consultative School Board and oversees committees associated with the School Consultative Board
  • Undertakes and oversees the strategic planning process-goals and objectives. 
  • Works collaboratively with the Vice-Principals to ensure these are included in the Accreditation process

 

Development and Finance

  • Approve and supervise all capital property development and planning
  • Maintain appropriate school records and files and events related to capital development, endowment, alumnae, past parents, memorials, appropriate fundraising
  • Prepare the school’s Annual Report
  • Oversee, in consultation with the Finance Committee, all financial planning and budgeting for the school
  • Oversee and approve, in conjunction with AMPA all additional fundraising activities of the school
  • Work with all administrators to engage interest in and support from alumnae, past parents, current families, grandparents, benefactors, and friends
  • Develop, in conjunction with the appropriate Vice-Principals and/or Boards, policies, procedures, publications, promotional, and fundraising programs that reflect the current vision and mission of the school
  • Direct public relations for the School and act as primary public spokesperson for the School

 

 

All Preferred candidates must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in education or educational leadership from an accredited university
  • A valid administrative credential
  • A valid certification for Basic First Aid and CPR
  • A minimum of five-years of teaching experience preferably in a Catholic educational setting
  • A high degree of discretion dealing with confidential information
  • An ability and willingness to work independently and as a team
  • A Catholic in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church
  • A strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and written communication skills with a history of working collaboratively with others
  • A history of professional goal-setting, organization, and implementation for projects and programs
  • A strong command of digital skills including use of SchoolSpeak or equivalent Parish/School data management system, Google applications, and Edlio or other teacher website equivalent
  • A willingness to employ and adopt new technologies
  • A flexible demeanor and willingness to adapt to school schedule changes, special events, and celebrations that helps foster the school’s mission of teaching to the whole child
  • A perspective of Catholic education as a ministry, not just a job
  • Preference given to candidates with Catechist certification

 

 

This position reports directly to the Pastor, Monsignor John Barry, and offers a competitive salary, benefits, and professional development opportunities. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
