Teacher Bio

My name is Renee Shibel. I was born in Inglewood,CA and have lived most of my life in the South Bay. I went to elementary school at St. Anthony's in El Segundo and to high school at Bishop Montgomery in Torrance. I was actively involved in sports throughout my childhood and adulthood specializing in soccer. I played at the high school, collegiate, and semi-professional levels. I coached club and high school soccer for many years. Some of my fondest memories include days and nights on the soccer field. I even had my reception at my wedding on a soccer field, cleats and all!

Since I was young I knew I wanted to work with our youth. I always took jobs teaching swimming lessons, working at soccer camps, and coaching. Due to this passion for working with children, my faith, and my love for sports, I joined a club in college called FCA- Fellowship of Christian Athletes. These meetings brought me to get involved teaching athletics in schools in the Riverside County. This is when I knew I wanted to major in education. At UC Riverside I majored in Liberal Studies with a focus in Sociology and a minor in Education. I started working in the Torrance Unified School District and the Wiseburn School District working as a substitute teacher while I worked on my teaching credential and Masters at Cal State Long Beach. I started teaching physical education at Westside Neighborhood School in 2009, and I moved into the classroom to teach Fifth grade for one year at St. Anthony's in El Segundo in 2016. I started teaching fourth grade at American Martyrs in 2016. This will be my seventh year at AMS and I couldn't be happier. I absolutely love everything about fourth grade and the AMS community.

I married my husband, Justin, in 2016 in Palos Verdes, CA. He is an athletic trainer for USC athletics, and was born and raised in Hollywood, CA. We have two boys together- Mateo and Anthony. Mateo is 4 years old and Anthony just turned 2 years old.  In our spare time we love going to the beach, playing sports, swimming at nona's pool, spending time with family, and traveling.
