what are welcome fourth graders to another voice thread we are call the effects we just finished talking about the gold rush and what had happened now we're going to be talking about the effects of the gold rush on the economy add people on jobs and that sort of thing you'll notice the idle air it says settlements grow change now the discovery of gold in California set off one of the largest movements of people in history New Year's San Francisco came from a town of about 820 of 35000 Richard and left San Francisco by the thousands Sacramento quickly and so did stop in Marysville baby came training and Supply Centers for the mining camps in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada other towns that have been mining camp we're now had now had Banks food stores and doctor's offices K what basically had happened is many of these miners gave up their dreams of finding gold and they became on canoers they started their own businesses so who is mining camp you have a few minor sewer like you know what I'm not going to find gold but I know what I know these miners need food open up a food store for these miners are going to need somewhere to keep their money they would open up a bank and still needs a little started to form in place of these small mining camps looking on page 238 captain of the economy the gold the Gold Rush definitely made some people in California Rich while many workers like I mentioned earlier other started businesses they provided goods and services to the minors and other number the person who buys a good or service is there were Carpenters you needed to build houses and buildings Merchants Supply Paul needed police officers Banker Grocers blacksmith and other workers for doors became wealthy distance to the miners and another problem started at the door so many people that came California in such a short time that there was a shortage of the goods and services there simply were not enough  stop because many people came to California with basically just what they can carry with their hands well after while they needed a place what was so many people there wasn't enough food there wasn't enough clothes there wasn't enough would there turn it up in order to support all of these people coming to California so there was a shortage now it when you have shortage of something it causes inflation or a sharp increase in prices the reason is it because if there is not a lot of stuff rain but everybody wants that something the price is going to be really high what's say we are all taking a test and there was only one but you had to take this test number to graduate from 5th grade or 4th grade A lot of people would be trying to buy that pencil wooden because there's only one of them and you really need it it's in high demand so that cost of that pencil is going to be really expensive that's called inflate so this started to happen during the California Gold Rush move on with the pictures here is an example of some entrepreneurs who started their own business to support the miners Baker  and you can see here this is a picture of inflation because there was not a lot of dope the Costco funny but the cost of soap became almost as much as gold these miners were having to send their clothes tired of California in order to get them clean and not cost a lot of money so if you had no  it was worth lot of money almost more than the gold itself okay no opportunity started to happen obviously gold rush I've already mentioned quite a few of them on the high cost of living in California because everybody wanted to come here many still saw it as a place of freedom and opportunity the Goldrush economy in California meant that some people have opportunities what were not available to them in other places many women open hotels restaurants and lotteries are made African-American saw this place as as a place of opportunity and freedom there is this gentleman give to an officer entreprenuer opened a shoe store in San Francisco during the gold rush African Americans were free who made money would use their money to buy the freedom of enslaved Africans so they were basically them free  but no damage to the land when the miners or no rule or rules governing how they could mine so they would just tear up the land as gold Kmart miners often pora land or build dams Lower River stage and kept the water for meeting Farms Downstream devastating to the economy into the countryside into the nature to the animals that live there 1984 lawmakers in California put up some better laws to stop some of the more dangerous mining I am on now 42 population people with nearly race religion or background came to California during the Gold Rush immigrants from around the world from California different languages and cultures get along with people from other groups but sometimes there were conflicts so many people coming from with different languages and cultures  some people got along but some people did not for example Chinese is a Mexican immigrant California Indian African-American California and other groups for this unfair treatment of people because of their religion their race or their birthplace for the Indians were especially hurt by the gold rush in many other ways they were forced off their land when the miners found gold there miners all cut down forest and destroyed rivers and streams where many of the American Native Americans went to get their food and play hunted in the early days of the Gold Rush violence and crime or common because there were few government officials what side to become Vigilantes to enforce the laws a vigilante is a person who takes the law into his or her own hand hey there's no police officer here I'm going to take the law into my own hands so if that person harms me instead of calling the cops go get them myself because they did not follow the rules of law in some cases weasel and punish people who had done being wrong is a person who set up a new business what is a sharp increase in prices and discrimination the unfair treatment of people because of their religion the rate or Dare birthplace to questions you're going to need to answer for this voice
